Bischler-Napieralski reaction
Reaction of aromatic amide with an alpha-haloketone or aldehyde to produce a hetero-bicylic system. With a non-symmetrical starting material, a mixture of products are produced.

Vilsmeier-Haack reaction
Vielsmeier-Haack reaction, is the reaction between a disubstituted formamide and phosphorus oxychloride to yield a reaction intermediate (Vilsmeier reagent). The Vilsmeier-Haack reaction is a formylation reaction and a common way to introduce and aldehyde moeity into activated aromatic rings, such as amines and phenols.

Fisher indole synthesis is the reaction between phenylhydrazine and a ketone to yield a bicycle indole system. The reaction proceeds through a 3,3-sigmatropic rearrangement and a ring closure with ammonia as leaving group.
